Conference Co-Chairs Gus Drosos Technical Principal, HOK Gus Drosos As the technical principal for HOK’s Kansas City practice, Drosos has more than 25 years of experience overseeing quality control and the technical aspects of large-scale sports and entertainment projects. His knowledge and hands-on experience working with project construction teams and owner groups, gives him invaluable perspective on the technical aspects of project delivery. He has coordinated the design and construction of complex sports facilities with construction budgets ranging from $5 million to more than $1.5 billion. Travis Bailey Senior Project Architect, HOK Travis Bailey Bailey is an experienced project designer and senior project architect with HOK’s Kansas City practice. He has extensive experience in all aspects of building design and detailing, from façades to feature elements, materiality to systems integration, and from conceptualization to construction administration. His strong design capabilities enable him to not only bring intelligent and creative design solutions to each project, but also develop the initial concept through planning, documentation and construction with an emphasis on materiality, exterior envelope design, lighting design, building systems integration and both exterior and interior project detailing. Steve maintains that good design is about people–their health, productivity and lifting the human spirit through design. His work is setting new standards in human purposed, high performance design. Presenters Bryan Gross Principal Helix Architecture + Design Bio » Bryan Gross Bryan brings over 30 years of architectural experience and a steady passion for excellence to all of his design projects. Often operating as both the project manager and the lead designer, Bryan focuses on guiding the client team, the in-house design team, and the consultant team through the complexity of the design process in a manner that insures great design. Bryan earned his Bachelor of Environmental Design and Architecture degrees from the University of Kansas and Graduate Diploma from the Architectural Association in London, England. He is a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) accredited designer with an interest in designing high performance, sustainable buildings. Specialties: Bryan has been in the forefront of Helix’s initiatives in the areas of higher education and sustainable design. Brian Garvey Associate SFS Architecture Bio » Brian Garvey Brian Garvey’s attention to architectural detail begins at the door – literally: “A custom pull or unexpected detail can set the stage for what’s inside.” As an SFS associate, his broad-ranging experience spans all aspects of design and construction. Brian thrives on diversity of project types and scales, and the opportunity to play different roles in their creation. Over the span of his architectural career, he has honed his talent for communicating design work graphically through 2-D and 3-D digital media, and a passion for sustainability, in design and in life (“say no” to plastic bags, says Brian). His organized, responsible nature lets him work effectively within each discipline of a project team. Deb Ford Vice President Gould Evans Bio » Deb Ford Deb brings more than 30 years of comprehensive architecture experience to Gould Evans. Her background includes architectural design, master planning, cost estimating, preparation of construction drawings, and construction administration. She is highly skilled in the execution and management of complex projects. Deb has been involved with a wide-range of projects from multiple projects with the Cerner Corporation, to numerous higher education projects on a variety of campuses. Todd Ault Associate Vice President Gould Evans Bio » Todd Ault Todd is a senior project manager with 19 years of architectural experience and an expert in Building Information Modeling (BIM). Working on both large commercial developments, as well as interpreting the nuances of residential municipal code and building science, gives Todd a strong understanding of the broad ranges of issues involved in designing buildings and developing property. In his 12 years with Gould Evans, Todd has designed some of the largest projects for the firm including Cerner’s new Innovations Campus in Kansas City, Missouri; Cerner’s Continuous Campus in Kansas City, Kansas; and NOAA’s Laboratory in LA Jolla, California. 9:35 – 9:50 Networking Break 9:50 – 10:55 2. Presenters David Ford Director Walter P Moore Bio » David Ford David is a Managing Director overseeing the Diagnostics Group in Walter P Moore’s Kansas City office. He has worked on diversified aspects of forensic engineering by evaluating and designing repairs for distressed structures. He has more than 15 years of experience related to building science, façades, building envelope moisture management, roofing systems, below-grade waterproofing, and parking garages. David is a licensed engineer in seven U.S. states and Canada, and a registered roof consultant and waterproofing consultant, which are certifications that require extensive knowledge of building enclosure systems.
